Principal's Profile

PrincipalDr. Shailesh A. Shirali – Principal

Dr. Shailesh Shirali was with the Rishi Valley School, Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, from 1983 till 2005. He served as Principal for 13 years, taught Mathematics and was Director of Studies and Teacher Development at other times. Prior to joining Rishi Valley School, Dr.Shirali taught at the University of New Brunswick, Canada. He is also on the Governing Body of the Krishnamurti Foundation of India (KFI), which runs several renowned schools in India.

Dr.Shirali is deeply interested in teaching children of various ages and has a passion for mathematics. Through paper presentations he actively participates in many prestigious international level seminars on Mathematics. He is involved with the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) and has authored several books and articles. Many of his former students are actively pursuing research in Mathematics in well-known universities in USA and Canada .

Some of the honorary positions held by Dr.Shirali are as Member of the CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination) and on the committee for National Curriculum Framework Review, 2005.

An alumnus of St.Stephen College, Delhi University, and an MBA from the IIM, Ahmedabad, India, Dr.Shirali also holds a Ph.D from the University of Texas, Dallas, USA.

A Teachers Resource Centre, which will offer workshops and training programmes to teachers to enhance the quality of classroom processes and student learning is to be set up. The Resource center will be well-stocked with teacher resources to help create new and innovative teaching-learning materials, methods and hold exhibitions of teachers’ and students’ work.

The entire staff training process at AVRS imbibes a culture of a Learning Organisation which is technology aided and uses research based theories of learning.
