Our Educators

AVRS has a varied faculty, combining experience with youthfulness. The teacher body is a diverse set of talents with people from different regions adding their culture to the environment of the Institution. Their knowledge base goes beyond mere academics - they have a wide array of skills in extra-curricular activities such as chess, magic, candle making and performing arts.

Teachers go through various orientation workshops where they work on planning and curriculum acitivities to absorb the vision of the school, align themselves with our values and take ownership of the mission and curriculum.

We have several teachers who are professionals in their chosen field for example the HOD of the Art & Craft section is a professional artist with his roots in the Artists Village in Chennai; the HOD of Music is a professional musician with extensive contacts in his field, particularly in Karnataka.

Most of our Faculty has earlier teaching experience in prestigious schools across India. We have teachers from Rishi Valley School, Madanapalle; Lawrence School, Lovedale and Bishop Cottons Girls School in Bangalore.
Our faculty possesses essential content knowledge and has multi-faceted interests and pursuits. THEY belong to the class of warm, sensitive people with a passion and commitment for mentoring learners...

And, strongly believe in:

  • Every learner's ability to succeed
  • Holistic development of the child
  • Nurturing the uniqueness of each child with sensitivity
  • Life long learning
  • Integrated approach to knowledge

We believe our talented Faculty carries the focus on self-development and self-affirmation into the teaching-learning environment connecting and developing the multiple intelligences of the students.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

We are now nearly three and a half months into the term, and the end of the term is in sight. Children must be having dreams of a well earned vacation at home. It has been a long, yet happy term.

We have made significant progress on many fronts. The laboratories are now ready, and it is expected that from now onwards, the teaching of Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Grades 6-8 will laboratory based to a large extent. The laboratories for Mathematics and Language have yet to be set up, but I am confident that this will happen soon.

We had two remedial programmes for English - for Grades 7-8, in August, and Grades 2-6, in September. The focus was on grammar and correct usage of language (Grades 7-8) and on spoken English (Grades 2-6). There will be more such workshops held during the second term and third term, and one during the October-November vacation too.

It has on the whole been a wet term, with an above normal monsoon that has been very active in large parts of the country. The ceaseless drizzle meant that the outdoor games schedules were perennially upset, and it was a major challenge to find alternatives that could be held indoors.

We were able to organize one nature excursion for Grades 6 to 8, to the Muthodi forest (near the Bhadra sanctuary). The outing was organized by Mr. Girish, Wildlife Warden and advisor to AVRS, and his team. The children enjoyed the outing immensely. Some of them reported having seen a Giant Malabar Squirrel. Children of Grades 2-5 went to the nearby Mathavara forest the same day.

We had a few visitors who interacted with the children - Ms. Rasika Khanna, Bharata Natyam dancer, who gave a performance in classical dance, and Col. Chacko (retired from the Indian Army), who gave a slide show on Ladakh, its wildlife and people. As the school grows and matures, there will be more such occasions and interactions.
