Our views on Assessment

Assessment is more than grades -Assessment is much more than assigning grades to students. It is a mechanism for providing instructors with data for improving their teaching methods and for guiding and motivating students to be actively involved in their own learning. Essential information about our students learning progress and about the extent to which we are meeting our teaching goals is given by Assessment procedures.

Assessment helps students "become more effective, self-assessing, self-directed learners and provides important feedback to both teachers and students".

Assessment Aligned With Stated Standards, Benchmarks and Indicators - Assessment techniques give us useful feedback for refining our curriculum and instructional methods so that students can successfully achieve the learning outcomes. They serve as a "feedback loop" wherein we evaluate the extent to which our curriculum and instruction choices are attaining the learning area goals. Instructional methods can be modified based on the results of the evaluation of the assessment methods.
