ARTS AND CRAFT
The 3 primary colors - red, blue, yellow - which can be mixed in varying proportions to make the entire spectrum of colors, have to be made from natural pigments; by mixing other colors, we do not the primary colors.
The Art Studio teaches this and much more. Facing the hills in the north-east direction, natural sunlight brightens the room. The walls of the room are covered with the creative work of students, and the furniture has colorful stains from dripping paint. The AVRS approach to integrating the curriculum is most visible in the Art class. The Craft and Art teachers interact with teachers of other subjects and give themes to students based on their academic sessions - with amazing results.
Students are taught to work with various paint media and to sketch still life and the human form using pencil and charcoal. The Blackboard displays calligraphy work done by students - writing on the blackboard improves the wrist movement resulting in more controlled brush strokes while painting or drawing.
Clay Modeling, Print Making, Pottery, Sculpture, Painting, Mask Making are some of the modules taught in the Art studio. The Art teacher takes students on Nature walks in the spacious campus to observe and sketch in silence. Stories are made up by students during these walks, which are then illustrated during the class.
The Craft class offers opportunities for learning Weaving, Candle Making, Origami, Paper Mat making, Collage, Embroidery, Knitting, etc. Guest speakers are invited for demonstrating and teaching their skills in other specialized craft.
The Arts and Craft faculty are passionate about giving complete creative freedom to students and to nurture their holistic thinking ability. Projects are assigned to mixed-ability groups of students. In order to promote team-working ability and the ability to deal with different personalities.
